So I got a new personal laptop Lenovo T400, with T9400 Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 9c Li-Ion battery. I have been used to working on company provided laptops for a long time now, so never worried about the admin functions that are required with a new purchase. Installing firewalls, anti-virus, partitioning, generally our network operations guys do such
stuff.
Since this laptop came with a single partition, I have to choose a partition manager so as to segregate my programs installations and files into different drives. ( If things go wrong or I have to reinstall my OS, I can simply reformat the C: drive without touching the other drive(s)).
My search started with BIG G and I hit this page soon. Since the HOME edition of EASEUS had the smallest size and the best price in the world, I chose this edition and installed it. For sure, it lived up its expectation.
Within 2-3 mins the program EASEUS partition manager was up and running. In next 6-8 mins it allowed me to partition the C: drive into two drives. The process works something like this:
- You take a C: drive and “Resize” it to allot some free space to it. – This step needs 2 reboots of the system. Total Time: 4 – 5 mins
- In the next step, this free space is converted to a Partition by clicking on “Create Partition”. This step doesn’t require any re-boot. Total time : 2 – 3 mins
As soon as you click on OK, while allotting free space or while creating a partition, operations go into a pending state. You have to click on Apply button on the left bottom for them to take effect. Though you can do both the steps above by a single click of the “Apply” button but I preferred to do them one after the other. (Just wanted to be sure nothing goes wrong).
The utility worked like a charm and deserved a review here.
So EASEUS has many editions, which one should you choose?
While this comparison chart can give you a good idea, for most of the basic needs I think HOME edition would work best but yes if you are a business you may have to look into Professional or Server edition. (since EASEUS TOS won’t allow HOME edition to be used for business purposes)
Download EASEUS partition manager
PS: I am not an affiliate for this product and above is my personal experience with this utility.
The gaming industry is on fire! A lot of interesting games will be released in 2010, bringing new developments and whopping tech leaps to the table. Which games are the most anticipated ones? Check them out right here.

Just like 2009, MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) will still be creating headlines in 2010. The two most anticipated MMORPG comes from two of the world’s greatest sci-fi titles: Star Wars and Star Trek. Star Wars: The Old Republic features a superb open-world platform that will enable you to determine every possible aspect of a mission, including making decisions on the outcome of the quest you are having. The graphics are fabulous, and it will surely be one of the best MMORPG game ever released. Star Trek Online gives you the unique mixtures of starship combat and on-foot missions, allowing you to explore the universe along with thousands of other players online.
Several offline games must also be anticipated, promising superb graphical improvements and addictive gameplays to gamers around the world. Mass Effect 2 will be the sequel everybody is waiting for, but the crème de la crème would have to be Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. This latest installment of the Command & Conquer series guarantees you mind blowing real-time strategy battles that will keep you playing for victory.
My personal favorite? Spec Ops: The Line! This Dubai-set tactical combat shooter may not be the best there is, but it will be more than what you could imagine from this kind of game. 2010 will be an interesting year indeed
So, with the worsening power conditions in my city – Bangalore – I had to get a wireless broadband for myself. The kind of work I do online, I can’t afford a second of internet outage and always require a very high speed internet connection.
As my research for the ideal broadband progressed, I zeroed-in on two choices Reliance Netconnect Broadband or Tata Photon+. I thought of taking wireless connection as my secondary connection – only to be used when left with no power and when my UPS had drained off – with primary being the ever reliable Airtel broadband.
Reliance Net connect broadband comes in two flavors, pre paid a well as post paid while Tata Photon+ is available in post paid option only. Since one of my friends had an awful experience with the customer service of Tata Plug2Surf (the earlier technology of broadand used by Tata). I thought of starting my in depth research in Reliance NetConnect. Through the ads served on the Google, I got a site which offered a bonus for getting a reliance net connection through them so I filled up a form. There was no reply even after 48 hrs of filling up a form. So I called up the Reliance Customer Care and asked if they can send a person at my home for the demo. I got an assurance that a person will show up within 24 hours but again No reply. The process of me calling “customer (un)care” and Reliance not sending the demo for executive – after giving me assurance – continued for 3 days.
Getting no help, I tried taking help of local Reliance World folks. Well, they were no better either and were not willing to provide a demo at my home. Somehow, after tirelessly calling all Reliance World stores in the city, one of the store guy obliged and came at my home to provide the demo. The speed was surprisingly very good. In fact can easily be compared with my Airtel wired broadband.I went ahead and bought the prepaid plan.
You may wonder how is the connection working out for me now? It’s been three weeks now and the connection is simply great. I was able to take a 4 hours long video conference through netconnect and was able to go on my company’s VPN without getting disconnected even once. With all the issues I mentioned above, I just pray that I didn’t get to deal with the customer service of Reliance Netconnect.
So what should you do before you plan for a wireless broadband at your place?
- Get a LIVE demo done at your place. I can’t emphasize the importance of DEMO enough. (This high speed broadband doesn’t work at my friends home at all !). Test the internet speed using speedtest.net, If you see the speed is good and Reliance netconnect screen shows 5 signal bar at your place, GO FOR IT! If not, start exploring Tata Photon+ connection.
- Choose between prepaid and postpaid plans. You have to buy a Rs 3500/- worth stick first for both the connection types.
With prepaid plans, as of now Reliance is offering a 10GB download free for the first month.
With postpaid plans, as of now Reliance is offering a discount of Rs 200/- for the next 12 months on your rental with first month free. - Pray -like me – that you don’t have to deal with Reliance customer care.

A new trend has been started by DSLR manufacturers; adding HD video recording capabilities to their top DSLRs for enthusiasts has make people thinking about upgrading their cameras for sure. HD video recording capabilities of DSLR cameras are not as good as dedicated video camcorders, but it is more than enough to record moments instantly. There are also limitations as to frame rate and length, but for most people HD video recording capabilities built into a DSLR is more than just enough.
Out of several DSLRs with digital HD video recording, Nikon D90 and Canon EOS 5D MK II are the most favorite ones. Both are targeted for different consumer — we are not making apple-to-apple comparison here — and offer different range of HD video recording features. Nikon D90 records M-JPEG, 720p video and outputs an AVI file, but the time length of the recording is limited due to the excessive heat generated on the sensor while recording HD video; it can only records HD video for a couple of minutes. As Nikon D90 is cheaper, the HD video recording feature can be used to record short clips than a full-length video.
Canon EOS 5D MK II, targeted at a more professional level with more expensive price tag, has better HD video recording capabilities. 5D MK II’s CMOS sensor captures 1920×1080p frames and outputs 1080i H.264 video at 30fps, which is in fact superbly good even against dedicated HD video camcorder. EOS 5D MK II also has microphone jack for stereo microphones as well as built-in monaural microphone, although audio recordings are sampled at CD-quality audio (16-bit, 44.1 kHz). The only limitation is you CompactFlash size, allowing you to record 4GB worth of video at a time; although larger CompactFlash units are available, the size limitation persists.
There are other DSLRs now equipping themselves with HD-Ready or Full-HD video recording. Compact and bridge digital cameras are also enjoying a nice boost with HD video recording capabilities, so we will still see the trend develops in the next couple of years. Who knows, maybe in a year or two all digital cameras can be used to record HD video clips.

EBook readers are definitely the new way of reading books, newspapers, magazines, and any digital publications you can think of. You can easily carry thousands of books and publications with you — including comics — and read it whenever you want. When talking about eBook readers, Amazon Kindle has got to be on the top of the list.
Kindle is the pioneer — and the best — of eBook readers. There are new versions of Kindle recently launched to keep up with the market’s needs and wants, and they are even better. Amazon announced the Kindle 2 on February 9, 2009. The device became available just a few days after and received amazing responses and reviews from its users. An international version is also released on October 7, 2009, enabling users from around the world to use local 3G network to download books and publications to their Kindles.
Kindle features a lot of interesting traits. It is well-designed with only 1/3 of an inch in thickness and 10.2 ounces in weight. It is completely portable and can be carried with you without hassle. Downloading books with the support of 3G wireless network will only take no more than 60 seconds. It can holds up to 1,500 books on its internal memory, so you wouldn’t have to worry about running out of publications to read. You will surely enjoy reading books and publications on its 6″ diagonal E Ink® screen; it is one of the best eBook reader screen technologies currently available, enabling you to read eBooks for hours without straining your eyes. It will also display books vividly under direct sunlight — reading books using Kindle will feel like you are reading paperbacks. Don’t worry about battery life either, read books for days with a single charge.
There are currently 7,832 customer reviews on Kindle’s page; it is no surprise at all since users are lining up to get this amazing eBook reader and they all love it. I took the liberty to quote one of so many testimonials, and here’s what it says:
The Kindle is fantastic. If I need to look up a term, or a treatment, I just type it in, and seconds later, the Kindle returns with all references to it within the entire library. Now, I know how valuable this is… it’s a reference library I can carry with me. More than that, though, the ability to find the information I need quickly could save lives. Also, the readability is superior to any PDA. The “Electronic Ink” format reduces strain on the eyes, and those of you with vision problems can adjust the font size to VERY LARGE fonts. Sure, the PDA has plenty of useful medical tools you can download, but I find more often than not, I want to be able to see the full text involving the condition, diagnosis, and treatment of the term I’m looking up.
Interested? You can have Kindle delivered to you instantly with Amazon’s One-Day Shipping. It is available in two flavours, with a storage capacity of 1500 books and 3500 books and at price of $249 and $489 respectively. Get your Amazon Kindle now!

Touchscreen phones have been quite popular the past couple of months, especially with Apple launching their iPhone and the BlackBerry Storm capturing everyone’s attention. However, not all touchscreen phones are created the same. It is interesting to see who has the best touchscreen functionality, and we are going to discuss them in this article.
Resistive vs. Capacitive

HTC Touch Diamond with Resistive Touchscreen
Resistive screens are comprised of a number of layers. The top coat is usually a clear polyester film, which is flexible and smooth. When a finger — or a stylus — presses down, the top layer comes in contact with a lower glass layer, enabling voltage and electrical currents to be measured and the location of the press can be computed. Capacitive touchscreen, on the other hand, uses crystal-clear glass as the touch surface. They are not flexible, but they do have better endurance and feel. A circuit panel sensor underneath the glass records changes in electrical capacitance, or charge, when activated by a finger’s — and only finger — electrical charge.
Phones such as HTC Touch Diamond, Samsung Omnia, and many other PDA-phones use resistive touch screen. IPhone and Storm use capacitive touchscreen. If you compare the two kinds, you can clearly see the differences between the two of them by seeing phones features. Storm’s SurePress is definitely a breakthrough, allowing you to utilize double-action touch interface to the max. IPhone also benefits from the use of capacitive touchscreen because they can introduce the famous pinch motion (using two fingers to control the interface and zoom level). Still, capacitive touchscreen main disadvantage is the fact that you must use your finger to control the device. You can’t even use gloves, because the interface relies on your body’s capability to pass electrical currents. This is why resistive touchscreen is still widely used, especially in the Asian countries where they need to use styluses to be able to hand-write characters.
So which one of the two touch screens is the best? For the time being, we will have to give the crown to capacitive touchscreen for their features. A capacitive stylus is being developed as well, so it wouldn’t be long before you can use stylus on your iPhone.
Although Acer announced that they will be launching an Android based netbook, the lack of excitements among users is making them took a turn to dual-boot. Still, Acer Aspire One with the infamous Android operating system is out. You can still use Windows XP, but you can boot Google’s Android OS if you are looking for a more comfortable and open source mobile platform especially when it comes to browsing the internet or adding applications to support its functions.
The new version of Aspire One D250 will use Intel Atom N280 at 1.66 GHz as its main brain with the support of 1 GB DDR2 RAM. It is known to be powerful enough even for running Windows Vista with modest visuals. The 10.1” WSVGA is no different than non-Android D250 models, but it is more than enough to display high resolution desktop at razor sharp color depth. You will also enjoy the built in Intel GMA 950 graphics processor; although it is not the best available on the market today, its performance is way above average. Netbooks are designed for office and mediocre computing anyway, so you wouldn’t expect too much graphical or 3D power from its chosen graphics processor. You wouldn’t have to worry about storage though, because the 160 GB SATA hard disk should be more than enough to store your files.

Acer Netbook with Android Pre-Installed
Other than several main components described above, Acer also adds Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g support as well as Bluetooth 2.1 module. Webcam, stereo speakers, three USB 2.0 ports, and of course a 6-cell battery will make this netbook a complete package for mobile computing.
The Android-equipped D250 is available in red, black, blue, and white with its retail price starts at $349.99. People are expecting to see the price being a lot lower, but with Acer choosing to put Windows XP installed as well there is no surprise that the price is not much different than previous models of Aspire One D250.
The launch of this netbook also confirms Acer’s decision not to produce netbooks with Chrome OS. Several Chinese manufacturers will be launching netbooks with Chrome OS later this year, but big manufacturers such as Acer, Lenovo, and even MSI are confirming that they are not yet interested in developing and launching Chrome-based netbooks in the near future.
